Work-In-Progress Wednesday

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a very happy New Year!

Monthly Contest Winner
We’re so happy about the success of The Log Line Blog and want to share that success with you. First is the winner of our first monthly contest. It was held from the first day of blogging on November 16 through midnight, December 31, 2011. We actually threw in November 12th as well since that was the first day with an example posting as well as the first set of guidelines. Boy...have we grown since then!
We were pleasantly surprised with the number of comments we got after our contest blitz. Of course, we would have loved to get more but every blog starts somewhere. This month, we had decided to give the prize to the one person who commented the most. However, there were two people who made an all out effort to comment on many of the log lines we presented. With that in mind, we have decided to award two Amazon $25 gift cards. This month’s gift cards will be going to Fedora Chen and Lela Gwenn. Ladies, please send an email to theloglineblog@gmail.com to claim your prize. Congratulations!
We plan to continue the monthly contest and will offer a $25 gift card to one lucky person who comments. It will be a random drawing from all comments made. Again, the more you comment, the better chance you have of winning the prize!
What is WIP Wednesday?

We have had many people ask us about our WIP Wednesday program. Here’s the scoop. Each Wednesday, an author may submit up to three different log lines on a work-in-progress. They will be giving a little background information regarding the story. We will invite an industry professional to critique the log lines, stating why or why not the log lines work for them. We also invite the public to comment as well therefore giving the author as much feed back as possible in regards to their possible log line.
One may ask the importance of a log line. Some may think they aren’t important at all. But experience tells us that log lines can sell books in more ways than one. First, it tells the editor that you have really honed in on what your story is about. Second, it gives a reader a glimpse into your world, hopefully pulling them in for more since it is only a taste of the story to come. Last it indicates that the author is totally in-touch with their story and can sum it up in just one line. For some, a log line may be the only chance to pitch a story to readers and industry professionals alike...why not make it the best one ever!
This program will only be able to accommodate up to two authors per week. So send your WIP log lines in early as we’re sure spots will fill up quickly. Don’t hesitate to send any questions to theloglineblog@gmail.com. We will be posting the lineup for the coming Wednesdays as soon as we can confirm guests.  Remember, this is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Submitting your WIP log line in no way guarantees that you will be critiqued by the industry professional of your choice.
Thanks for making The Log Line Blog such a success. Here’s wishing us all even more success in the coming year!
