1st Year Celebration – Day 4

Hi everyone!

Hope you are having a fantastic Saturday. We know we are. Lynn says that it has been quite chilly for her in Vienna. The rest of us in Nevada are having much the same and we’re surprised by the fact the two places are having the same weather.

Today, we’re talking a little bit more about the blog’s history. Like why we decided to started. Lynn is an author and said she always needed help with doing log lines. This was after she had taken classes, classes and more classes. Still, she felt her log lines lacked something. She thought if she saw more log lines, she’d finally get the hang of it. She prowled the internet and realized there weren’t any blogs for log lines. Thus The Log Line Blog was born.

Log lines can sell books to agents, publishers and readers alike. Good ones stick in your minds forever while bad ones don’t stick anywhere.  What we’re tried to do here is present the log lines as the author presents them to us. We make no judgments and our only real guideline is the word count of 25 words. Sure, we have formatting guides for making it easier to post the log line, not for the log line itself. It is up to those reading the log lines to let the author know if it works or doesn’t. We’ve had authors thank us for the  helpful comments.

There are changes coming for The Log Line Blog. Some for readers, some for authors. We will be posting covers on our two Home page sidebars. Some will be returning authors, some will be new. The covers will help add some color to our blog. Authors can check the advertising page and the submissions page to be apprised of any upcoming changes. Nothing will change with the submission process, just how we can promote your book. Blame the changes in social media for the updates.

Most of the time, this blog is for readers of books of all kinds. On Wednesday’s we are starting with wisdom for authors. On those days, if we don’t have someone give us instructions on how to do a better log line, we might give out some ideas on free promotion for our books. All in all, The Log Line Blog will still be the place to be for information about books to read and suggestions for authors.

Here’s a few more statistics for you before we get to the questions for today. Our stats haven’t been as good as we would have liked for such an awesome prize. Please make sure you share this will all your friends via Twitter, Facebook and Yahoo. We’ve had a couple hundred of looky-lou’s to see what it’s all about but we only have a total of 41 comments. We want a lot more if possible...so please, please share! It does look like we’ll be making our yearly goal of 36K people stopping by and checking out the blog this year. Yeah, us! We love visitors, we love sharing and we love giving out prizes when and where we can.

The fact remains that we can’t do anything without you, the ones who drop by to see what’s new, the ones who follow us and the ones who check out the books. We are grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We enjoy hearing from you...and talking to you...yes, we’re going to be answering blog posts later today. Or at least Lynn will...we’re the background people...J.

Here’s the questions for today:

1) What is the one guideline we have for doing a log line?

2) How many entries do we have for the prizes so far? (Hint: the answer is in the paragraph below.)

Again, here’s the information on the 1st Year’s Celebration prizes: Our grand prize will be a Kindle Fire HD along with 4 $20 gift certificates. You MUST comment today or on one of these days (November 3rd, 4th, 8th, 10th and 12th) to enter the yearly contest. Only comments from these days will be counted toward the grand prize. All prizes will be drawn randomly, so the more you enter, the more chances you have. Now, your comments need to be more than one word comments. We’ll give you a series of questions to answer each day. No, none of them will be hard and all the answers will be in the content of that day’s blog. Once you’ve answered the questions for the day, please come back and tell us what you think of the blog, it’s growth and what you hope to see us do in the future. See...right there are 4 entries if you answer all those questions in separate comments. The questions of the day do need to be answered in one comment please as they are the ones that will qualify you for the contest. These comments will NOT be counted toward the monthly contest, ONLY for the 1st year celebration contest.

Have a great day everyone! See you on Monday...

1st Year Celebration – Day 3

Hi everyone!

Welcome back for Day #3 of our 1st Anniversary Celebration...woohoo!

Can you tell we’re excited here at The Log Line Blog? One of the items we accomplished this year is to open a sister blog, The Book’s Blurb Blog, for the blurb of your book. That site in the first eight days of operation have exceeded our expectations! This really makes us jazzed around here.

But this isn’t about our new ventures, this day is about The Log Line Blog. Now we’ve gone over a few statistic from the blog. Here’s a few more facts. The Log Line Blog was published an amazing 276 times its first year. 47 of those posts were in November and December of 2011 and the rest were this year. The only time the blog had a slow or some down time was when Lynn was ill during April and May when she was in the hospital. Otherwise, we’ve been here consistently 6-7 days a week for your reading pleasure.

Now, we want you all to start looking at all the log lines, old and new, from beginning to end. One of the questions we are going to ask on Day 5 is to give us your favorite log line, so you should start looking at them to give yourself a head start. Also, when posting your answers to the questions or just commenting, please make sure you give us a valid email address. We don’t want you to miss out if you’re one of our winners as we do have a time limit on picking up prizes. Only 1 person during the year missed out on their gift certificates.

We can’t thank you enough for being here with us throughout our journey. We appreciate each and every one of you and we can’t say it enough.

Here are today’s questions:

1) What’s the name of our new sister blog?

2) How many log lines have we posted during this first year?

Don’t forget to include your email when you comment and give us the answers. You can also go back to the first two days and comment there again as well. Or maybe you’ll comment for the first time...just don’t forget to answer the questions of the day as that will qualify you for the drawing. Here’s the list of prizes and rules once again:

Our grand prize will be a Kindle Fire HD along with 4 $20 gift certificates.

Thanks again! We’ll see you here on Saturday.

1st Year Celebration - Day 2

Hi everyone!

Welcome to The Log Line Blog’s 1st year celebration!

We will be here November 3rd, 4th, 8th, 10th and 12th, talking about the blog and prizes, prizes, prizes. Did I say prizes? There are lots of them so stop back often!

Yes, we’ll be offering a lot of prizes. Our grand prize will be a Kindle Fire HD along with four $20 Amazon gift certificates. You MUST comment on the days mentioned above to enter the yearly contest. Only comments from these days will be counted toward the grand prize. You can comment on those days through November 29th as the winner will be chosen November 30th at 12 pm Pacific Time. All prizes will be drawn randomly, so the more you enter, the more chances you have. We’ll give you a series of questions to answer each day. No, none of them will be hard and all the answers will be in the content of that day’s blog. Once you have answered the questions for the day, please come back and tell us what you think of the blog, it’s growth and what you hope to see us do in the future. See...right there are 4 entries if you answer all those questions in separate comments. The questions of the day do need to be answered in one comment please as they are the ones that will qualify you for the contest. These comments will NOT be counted toward the monthly contest, ONLY for the 1st year celebration contest.

Here’s a few more interesting statistics from the site. As expected, the site that has the most referrals to The Log Line Blog is Facebook. We promote to over 19K people and groups on Facebook alone, so this isn’t much of a surprise. The most interesting referral URL is a site called zombiestat.com and until it came up in the stat listing, we had never heard of it. Now according to our stats, we had 139 page views but not all of you entered a comment. This is sad because of the prizes. Don’t you all want a chance at a new Kindle Fire HD? We know we would...but because we work here...we’re exempt and can’t enter. Therefore you have more chances because we know we’d be commenting as often as we could.

Again, we hope to continue to grow throughout the coming year. Share us with your friends and thanks for an amazing ride with this blog. Hope you’ll continue to share it with us.

Today’s questions:

1) What's the number of hits for yesterday, November 3rd?

2) Where do most of our referrals come from?

That’s it for today...see you tomorrow...you’re the best group of fans ever!
